The sequel dives even deeper into Polynesian culture, exploring themes such as legacy, leadership, and the bond with one’s ancestors. The story takes place three years after the events of the first movie.

While trying to restore the lost island of Motufetu, Moana is struck by one of Nalo’s lightning bolts and dies. However, the ocean and the spirits of her ancestors bring her back to life. After this event, Moana becomes a demigoddess, just like Maui, gaining a form of immortality that could allow her to live for more than a thousand years.

What Could Moana 3 Be About?
The post-credits scene in the second movie, in which Nalo vows revenge against Moana, hints at what the third film’s story could be. It strongly suggests that Nalo will return, along with Tamatoa, the giant villainous crab who still has unfinished business with the young adventurer.
Based on that ending, Moana 3 would likely focus on Moana and Maui’s battle against these two villains. However, now that Moana has become a demigoddess, it’s possible that Maui could eventually be replaced by another character. For now, though, that’s purely speculation, and fans will have to wait until Disney releases an official synopsis.
