The new 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 has been officially unveiled with a complete redesign that includes sixth-generation V8 engines, a bolder exterior design, redesigned interiors, and new technologies focused on driving, entertainment, and towing.
General Motors announced that the next-generation full-size pickup will be led by the Denali Ultimate and AT4X trims, aimed respectively at luxury and off-road driving. The lineup will also include the Pro, Elevation, AT4, and Denali configurations.
The first 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 models are scheduled to arrive at dealerships before the end of 2026. However, the company has not yet revealed pricing, full power figures, or launch dates for each market.
“With the next-generation Sierra 1500, we’ve brought together a new generation of Small Block V8 power, precise off-road capability, and our most immersive cabin experience yet,” said Michael MacPhee, Global Vice President of Buick and GMC.
What engines will the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 offer?
One of the biggest updates to the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is the introduction of two sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines, available in 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter displacements.
According to the company, both engines feature advancements in combustion, cooling, and control systems. They also use a new fuel injection system designed to optimize horsepower, torque, and overall performance across different driving conditions.
The engines were developed to perform both in everyday driving and in demanding situations such as towing, hauling heavy loads, and navigating rocky terrain.
GMC has not yet disclosed horsepower or torque figures for either engine. The company said complete technical specifications will be announced before the pickup reaches the market.
The powertrain lineup will also include an upgraded TurboMax engine, which GMC says will deliver the best standard torque in its class. It will be joined by the Duramax diesel engine, which the automaker describes as an exclusive offering within its segment.
All engines available for the 2027 Sierra 1500 will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
How does the new 2027 GMC Sierra change its design?
The new generation introduces a completely redesigned body characterized by sharper lines, a vertical grille, and a stronger visual stance.
The updates include an evolution of the Sierra’s signature front and rear lighting, along with welcome and farewell light animations available on selected trims. Certain configurations will also feature quad exhaust outlets and exclusive exterior elements.
The brand’s goal is to more clearly differentiate each version of the pickup. As a result, luxury, work-oriented, and off-road models will each feature their own unique styling and functional details.
The redesign also extends to the cabin. Every trim level will receive redesigned interiors featuring new color combinations, higher-quality materials, and additional storage solutions.
Available features include natural wood trim, forged wood accents exclusive to the Denali Ultimate, and a panoramic sunroof. GMC also says the crew cab will offer the best standard front headroom and legroom in its class.
Another highlight is the MultiPro center console, designed to provide additional storage space while serving as an extended work surface. Its design also allows easy access to USB charging ports without compromising the cabin’s clean appearance.
What does the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate offer?
The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate will sit at the top of the lineup. This version combines premium finishes, a standard V8 engine, advanced driver assistance technologies, and more than 60 inches of digital displays throughout the cabin.
Under the hood, it comes standard with the new 6.6-liter V8 engine. GMC describes it as the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class, although official performance figures will be released later.
The Denali Ultimate’s digital cockpit includes a 16.3-inch central infotainment display that can slide away to reveal a hidden storage compartment behind the screen.
Front passengers will have access to an 11.5-inch display dedicated to multimedia content and entertainment functions. The system also features a hinged cover that allows users to adjust the visible display area when the screen is not fully in use.
In front of the driver sits a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 15-inch Head-Up Display. The latter projects information such as speed, navigation directions, and selected driver assistance alerts directly onto the windshield.
The setup is completed by an 8.5-inch digital rearview mirror capable of providing a wider rear view when the cargo bed or rear seats are occupied.
For audio, the pickup features a 16-speaker Bose Premium Series sound system. Some speakers are integrated into the front headrests to create a more immersive listening experience.
New Sierra can be driven hands-free
The GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate includes a three-year subscription to Super Cruise, General Motors’ advanced driver assistance technology that allows hands-free driving on compatible highways.
According to GMC, the system can be used on more than 600,000 miles of roads across the United States and Canada. It is also compatible with towing.
Super Cruise includes features such as automatic lane changes and turn-signal-initiated lane changes. It is an advanced driver assistance system—not a fully autonomous driving system—meaning drivers must remain attentive and ready to take control at all times.
The availability of this technology will depend on the country, connectivity, compatible infrastructure, and commercial conditions in each market.
What’s new in the 2027 GMC Sierra AT4X?
The new GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X is aimed at buyers seeking greater off-road capability.
For the first time in a Sierra, this version can be equipped with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. It also features Multimatic Jounce Control dampers engineered to manage impacts during high-speed off-road driving.
The configuration includes electronically locking front and rear differentials that work together with multiple drive modes to improve traction on low-grip surfaces.
GMC claims that the combination of front and rear electronic locking differentials is not offered by any other competitor in its segment.
On the outside, the AT4X stands out with an exclusive hood design, a redesigned front fascia, and a two-inch suspension lift. It also features a wider stance optimized for challenging terrain.
Inside, the cabin features a Timber Mahogany color scheme, front seats with enhanced side bolstering, a flat-bottom sport steering wheel, and a standard panoramic sunroof. Interior finishes include perforated patterns, premium stitching, embroidery, and stainless steel speaker grilles.
GMC will also continue offering the AEV Edition package for customers looking to further enhance the Sierra AT4X’s off-road capabilities.
